Session: Side by Side: How Teachers and Their Students Can Build and Sustain an Effective Studio
Wiff Rudd is a native Texan from San Antonio and now lives in Woodway, Texas, with his wife, Jeanette.
In addition to Side by Side (2020), Wiff authored Collaborative Practice Concepts (2013), made possible by a grant when he was named the 2010 Centennial Professor at Baylor. He was received the Outstanding Teaching Award the same year.
Wiff joined the faculty of Baylor University’s School of Music in 2002 as Professor of Trumpet and Brass Division Coordinator. His students have participated in competitions hosted by the International Trumpet Guild and the National Trumpet Competition for many years with finalists and prize winners in numerous solo, mock audition, and ensemble divisions. Former students of his may be found studying in notable graduate schools, teaching in public schools throughout Texas, in various symphony orchestras across the country, and in premier and regional military bands.
Wiff is a founding member and manager of Rhythm & Brass, plays with the Baylor Brass, and is principal trumpet of the Waco Symphony. He performs often with the symphony orchestras of Dallas, Houston, Fort Worth, and Harrisburg (PA) as well as other orchestras throughout Texas. An active soloist, he enjoys collaborating with orchestra and bands.
Wiff received music degrees from Baylor University (BME) and the University of Northern Colorado (MM). His primary mentors include Ron Fox, William Pfund, and the late Michael Ewald and Larry Skinner.
