Stacy Simpson

Session: Making a living as a 21st Century Trumpet Player

Stacy Simpson enjoys an active professional career as both a performer and educator. Currently, Dr. Simpson performs regularly with the Louisville Orchestra and is currently 3rd/Utility Trumpet; she is the lead trumpet of the Derby Dinner Playhouse Orchestra; teaches trumpet and directs the Wind Ensemble, Pep Band, Brass Ensemble, and Trumpet Ensemble at Bellarmine University. Dr. Simpson has previously served on the faculties of Campbellsville College, Central State University, Sinclair Community College, and served as Teaching Assistant at the University of Kentucky, and Associate Instructor of Trumpet at Indiana University (Bloomington).

Stacy is a former member of the St. Louis Symphony performing full-time as Second Trumpet. She has also served as a member of the Cincinnati Ballet Orchestra, Aronoff Center Broadway Series, Louisville Bach Society, Louisville Broadway Series, St. Louis Bach Society, Lexington Philharmonic, Owensboro Symphony, Evansville Philharmonic, Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, and Springfield Ohio Symphony and has performed with many other ensembles such as the Cincinnati Symphony, Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, and the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra. Stacy has appeared as a soloist with the Municipal Band of Ecuador, Louisville Masters Chorale, University of Louisville Orchestra, Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music 18th Century Orchestra, as well as many other university and high school bands. She has also performed and given lectures throughout New Zealand, Germany, Portugal, Switzerland, and Ecuador. Stacy has won numerous awards and competitions including, first place at the International Trumpet Guild’s Mock Orchestra Audition and won the prestigious Fischoff Chamber Music Competition with the Canterbury Brass.
