Recital: Polish trumpet music

Trumpeter, teacher, composer, cultural animateur.  He graduated from Igor Cecocho trumpet class at the Karol  Lipinski Academy of Music in Wroclaw, where he subsequently pursue postgraduate studies. I complemented his studies by taking part in courses and lessons with numerous pedagogues. While a student, he participated in national and international competition. His pries including third (1996) and second (1999) prize in the All-Poland Trumpet Festival In Kalisz, and first prize in the All-Poland Wind Chamber Ensemble Competition in Warsaw (2005). He  also has reached the final of the All-Poland Competition for Performers of Twentieth Century Music (2000). 

He began his professional career as a trumpeter in the Polish Festival Orchestra funded by Krystian Zimmerman (1999), later performing with the Wroclaw Philharmonic Orchestra (2000) and Sinfonia Varsovia 2000-2003. From 2003 to 2010 he was co-principal trumpet of the National Polish Philharmonic Orchestra in Warsaw. For more than a decade now,  he is a principal trumpet of Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic in Lodz. He is also one half of two international ensembles: 4 Pipes and Monochromatic Duo. From 20 years he has been performing early music on historical instrument. As part of the ‘Kapela Jasnogorska’ project, he has made many first recordings of music by Polish composers.

He has performed as a soloist in Europe, the United States and Australia. He has given the first performance  of dozens of works for trumpet, including trumpet concertos by Artur Banaszkiewicz and Krzysztof Grzeszczak, and Brendan Collins’s Concerto for 2 trumpets. In 2014 he released the solo disc “Trumpet Song” (DUX 1109), and in 2020 the disc Monochromatic Duo: One to One (Akolada), in a duet with the Spanish trumpeter Jose Chafer. In 2013 he  performed during ITG International Conference in Grand Rapids.

Slawomir Cichor has teaching since 2000. He began as a lecturer at Wroclaw Music Academy, but since 2006 has been a professor of  Lodz Music Academy. He also gives masterclasses at home and abroad. He has written compositions for trumpet and for trumpet ensemble, which have been performed at festivals in Poland and abroad incl. (Antwerp, Brussels, Detroit, Enschede, New York). As a cultural animateur, he is the initiator and organiser of the festival ‘Musical Summer in Gostynin’, two editions of the International Trumpet Conference in Lodz and the International Seminar ‘The art of orchestral performance’.  He received the ‘Meritorious for Polish Culture’- The award from the Minister of Culture , and the Bronze  Cross of Merit from the President of the Republic of Poland.
