Dr. Scott Hagarty is Associate Professor of Trumpet at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas where he has been teaching studio trumpet, directing brass ensembles and teaching additional courses in the music theory area since 2008. He is a versatile musician with experience performing in classical, jazz, new music and early music styles. As an orchestral musician, Dr. Hagarty is a member of the Corpus Christi and Victoria (TX) Symphonies and is on the sub-list with the Mid-Texas and Laredo Symphonies. He was previously a member of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony in Iowa and has performed with Orchestra Iowa and the Rochester Symphony (MN) among others across the United States. As a chamber musician he performs regularly with the Del Mar Faculty Brass Trio, Corpus Christi Brass Quintet, and was a member of the Aurora Brass Quintet (MN).
Dr. Hagarty earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree with a minor in jazz studies from the University of Northern Iowa, Master of Music degree in trumpet performance from Yale University, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in trumpet performance with a secondary area in music theory from the University of Minnesota. His primary trumpet teachers include Dr. David Baldwin, Gary Bordner, Allan Dean and Dr. Randy Grabowski. He is an active member of the International Trumpet Guild with several publications in the ITG Journal, and serves as the chair of the social media committee, as a part of the membership committee and is on staff as a recordings reviewer.
