Orestes Machado

Session: La trompeta cubana y su historia.

Graduated in Classical Music and Jazz at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias (CSMC). Professional trumpeter, composer, entrepreneur and educator. In 1997 he began his teaching career in Havana, at the National School of Art (ENA) until 2005.

As a performer he began in 1999, joining the Carlos Manuel y su Clan’s band, and from that moment he worked and collaborated with a good number of orchestras in Havana. Among them Paulo F.G and his Elite; Isaac Delgado; Orquesta Cubadisco All Stars 2004 (with Chucho Valdés); Augusto Enrique and his Mambo Band (Pavarotti and Friends 2002); Anaís Abreu, Miriam Ramos; Mamborama (Bill Wolfer ex-keyboard player for Michael Jackson).

He has recorded in: “Pentecostés” by Miel San Marcos, “Malo Cantidad” by Carlos Manuel y su Clan; “La Bolita” by Augusto Enríquez and His Mambo Band; also on the album made in the 2002 edition of Pavarotti and Friends; on the soundtrack of the movie “El Benny”, as well as in multiple commercials. He participated in multiple tours and festivals in the USA, Europe, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Martinique; Pavarotti and Friends 2002 edition for Angola. Mega Salsa concert at the National Auditorium of Mexico. Barranquijazz in Colombia; at private events organized by Michael Jordan at the Atlantis Hotel in the Bahamas; “The Gofiones at the Tropicana”, “En Busca de Valentina” and “Mujeres con Tacones” in the Canary Islands; In Search of Valentina. He has shared the stage with artists such as Sting, Andrea Bocelli, James Brown, Zucchero, Grace Jones, Gino Paoli, Lou Reed, Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, La India, Los Van Van, La Charanga Habanera.

He has edited two books: “Brasstactic! Getting Ready For The Horn Section. The trumpet. A Cuban Perspective”. and “Brasstactic II. The Tension Release Cycle”. With which he has appeared at the 41st Annual Conference of the International Trumpet Guild (ITG) as an exhibitor. Also at the University of California, the Sergio Arboleda University, in Bogotá. The International Trumpet Festival of Maspalomas, Spain. The International Bronze Metallurgy Festival, in Costa Rica and two editions of the Guatebrass Festival, in Guatemala. He currently resides temporarily in Guatemala, where he teaches at Da Vinci University in that country. He remains active as a trumpeter and educator, covering a wide range of different musical styles and collaborating with the most prestigious local projects, such as Miel San Marcos, Carlos Peña y su Big Band, Juan Carlos Alvarado, Chilly Jazz, among others.

As an entrepreneur, he manufactures trumpet accessories under the Brasson Dunamis brand.
