Nairam Simoes

Originally from Brazil, Dr. Nairam Simoes enjoys a multifaceted international career as a performer, music educator, and clinician with a wealth of knowledge particularly in chamber and Brazilian music. He is the Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Arkansas State University. Prior to his appointment at A-State, he served as trumpet faculty at Lamar University and Texas A&M-Kingsville. In addition to his teaching duties, he is the editor of the Orchestra Section Profile column for the International Trumpet Guild Journal.

As an active performer, he has played with the Symphony of Southeast Texas, Dayton Philharmonic, Lexington Philharmonic, Springfield Symphony, Kentucky Symphony among others. He has been a featured soloist with the Lamar University Symphonic Band, the Joao Pessoa City Band, and other ensembles.

Dr. Simoes has presented masterclasses all across the United States and in South America including the University of North Texas, Colorado State University, Utah University, Stephen F. Austin State University, University of New Mexico, University of Campinas in São Paulo and many other institutions. He was a featured artist for the 2021 International Trumpet Guild Conference, 2019 Brazilian Trumpet Conference, 35^th Winter International Music Festival of Santa Maria, the 2021 and 2016 Campina Grande International Music Festival in Paraíba (Brazil), and presented a recital at the 2021 International Horn Symposium. He has adjudicated for TMEA, KMEA and WTSBOA and has also chaired the High School Division for the 2022 and 2021 editions of the National Trumpet Competition. 

For 2022, Dr. Simoes will plan on presenting at the International Trumpet Guild Conferences in San Antonio TX, faculty for the 2022 University of Kentucky Summer Trumpet Institute and releasing an album of bran new Brazilian compositions for Trumpet, Horn and Piano on the label Fundamental Sounds.

Dr. Simoes holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, a Master of Music degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Memphis. His primary teachers included Alan Siebert, Phil Collins, Eric Berlin, David Spencer, Kyle Millsap, Scott Moore, Marie Speziale, Jim Pandolfi, and Charles Schlueter. Dr. Nairam Simoes is an artist and plays exclusively on S.E. Shires Trumpets, and is also an endorsing artist for Torpedo Bags and Monster Oil.
