Morris Northcutt

Session: Honesty in the Practice Room

“He plays with a beautiful, smooth, rich tone and with absolute control in all registers and at all dynamic levels.”

Washington native Morris Northcutt is known for his lyricism, artistry and ability to cross the boundary between classical and jazz. This Global Music Awards medal Winner and Bach Conn-Selmer Solo Performing Artist, has shared the stage with a wide range of performance groups, from Mannheim Steamroller, Critical Mass Big Band and The Blues Brothers Reunion Band, to Federal Way Chorale, Seattle Symphony Chamber Orchestra and Tacoma Symphony, just to name a few.

Northcutt’s rich freelance career has taken him across the globe, from the Pacific Northwest to Canada, South America and Europe. In both 2014 and 2017, he performed as a guest soloist with Denis Gautier Big Band in Southern France. In 2018, Morris toured Ireland with the Tacoma Concert Band as a featured soloist. In 2019, Morris completed a solo recital/masterclass tour of Ireland that included an appearance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. This past January, Northcutt appeared at the 2020 São Paulo Trumpet Academy in Brazil.

Morris is set to perform in France and the UK in April 2020, where he will be featured with many popular brass bands of the region, most notably in Reims with Brass Band de Champagne. Later in 2020, he will debut his first EP, produced and engineered by Latin Grammy Award winner Danilo Alvarez.

Morris Northcutt performs exclusively on Conn-Selmer Bach Professional Model trumpets and Pickett Brass mouthpieces.
