Michael Mergen

Session: A Guide to Cornet Articulation and “March Style”

Dr. Michael Mergen is Associate Professor of Trumpet at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where he began teaching in the fall of 2020.  Prior to joining the faculty at CCM, Dr. Mergen was a member of the United States Marine Band, “The President’s Own” in Washington, DC from 1999-2020.  While a member of the US Marine Band, Dr. Mergen regularly performed for White House functions to include, State Dinners, Arrival Ceremonies, Presidential Honors, and “In Performance at the White House” for PBS.  Other duties included ceremonial functions around the Washington, DC area, 12 National Concert Tours, 21 solo appearances with the Marine Band, and numerous educational outreach appearances which included master classes, recitals, and lessons.  When not performing or teaching, Dr. Mergen is researching the history of the cornet and trumpet and following his two daughters.
