THE 44TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL TRUMPET GUILD CONFERENCE
THE HYATT REGENCY • MIAMI, FLORIDA • 07.09.19–07.13.19
María Valencia was born and raised in a working class neighborhood Ecuador. She studied journalism and English at first, then started thinking about studying music. One day, by pure coincidence, she was “discovered” by the conductor of the local youth orchestra in Quito, who happened to live in the same building and knocked at the door because he heard someone play trumpet. That key moment was the beginning of a long journey of personal and artistic growth, first bringing her to Venezuela’s El Sistema and later to Europe, where she studied both modern and baroque trumpet in Amsterdam and Milan. María enthusiastically teaches trumpet to children (at the Ricordi Music School) and adults, while also performing in a wide variety of genres that include opera, Latin, Baroque A=415hz, as well as trumpet and organ.
