Session: Brazilian Music for Trumpet and Piano (with Antonio Cardoso, trumpet & Paula Galama, piano)

Professor of Trumpet at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro – Unirio, Maico Lopes has a very eclectic performance carrier. His performances include many appearances of contemporary chamber music to orchestral performances, to improvisation and pop/rock Brazilian music. The diverse experiences of his performance carrier offer a unique opportunity for students to see a real possibility in trumpet performance today. Specialized in chamber music for brass, research Brazilian music for unaccompanied trumpet and trumpet ensemble, he performed premiers of more than 20 pieces for these chamber groups over the last few years.

Maico holds a DMA, MM and BM from UNIRIO. As result of his researches, he has sheet music published as editor and recorded his first solo CD, Solo, feature Brazilian works for unaccompanied trumpet, released in 2014. He has performed at ITG Conferences since 2012 presenting Brazilian music in New Works Recital and lecture-recital appearances.

In 2020 published Trompete Brasileiro Vol. 1, a book with progressive studies for beginners working on Brazilian popular music styles such as Baião, Choro, Samba and Maxixe.  

Dr. Lopes coordinate the Laboratório de Criação, Investigação e Apresentação Musical – LIC-M1A, a research lab dedicated to brass performances and pedagogy studies.
