LUIS MIGUEL ARAYA

Winner of the 2004 Ellsworth Smith International Trumpet Solo Competition, Dr. Araya has enjoyed a very versatile career as an educator, soloist, chamber music and orchestra musician in countries such as the United States, Venezuela and Costa Rica. As an educator, Dr. Araya has taught at University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, University of Central Florida, and University if Costa Rica. As a chamber musician, he has played with the Dallas Brass, and the Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass. As an orchestra player, Dr. Araya has played with the Jacksonville Symphony, Miami Symphony, Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Venezuela Symphony and the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica.

Dr. Araya holds degrees from the National Institute of Music (bachelor), Loyola University in New Orleans (Masters) and Arizona State University (Doctorate), where he was a graduate teaching assistant for David Hickman. Currently, Dr. Araya serves as second trumpet with the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica and teaches trumpet at the University of Costa Rica. Dr. Araya an artist for Stomvi trumpets and Warburton Musical Products.
