Luigi Beverelli

Session: From Bach to Marsalis: The Making and Preservation of Artistic Identity

Luigi Beverelli is currently the Digital Media Producer, Social Media Director and Photographer for Wynton Marsalis Enterprises Inc., where he oversees the full digital presence of the international musician, educator and advocate of music: Wynton Marsalis.

Born in Manfredonia (Puglia), ITALY, on July 27, 1975, Beverelli studied foreign languages and music. He began working as web designer and web master in late 1999, and in 2002 he started working for Wynton Marsalis. Actually, Marsalis’ website is one of the biggest musician’s archive of information available in the world, featuring and impressive amount of data from 1980 to 2018.

Luigi has a deep knowledge of social media ecosystems, and is a pioneer and innovator of them. He implemented forum and commenting system on Marsalis’ website long before social media came in. He also came up with the first ever Q&A on Facebook on May 2009, and produced the first ever live webcast of a Jazz Concert on Facebook and Ustream, on August 2009 form Jazz in Marciac.

With his educational background (he has a B.A. in Trumpet at Conservatory of Music) Luigi combines an empathy for the artist experience with his natural talent creating unique and memorable visuals and photographs. He also worked as photographer for other world class artists such as Nicola Benedetti (violin) and Naseer Shamma (oud).

On October 2018, the United States Library of Congress selected Marsalis’ website for inclusion in the Library’s historic collection of Internet materials related to the LC Commissioned Composers Web Archive. They consider it to be an important part of this collection and the historical record.
