Kentucky Baroque Trumpets

The Kentucky Baroque Trumpets, formed in 2004 by the late Don Johnson Jr. His inspiration to create the ensemble came from a Symposium held by the Historic Brass Society after Don Jr. met with Friedemann Immer, John Foster, and Crispian Steele-Perkins. The founding members came from the surrounding regions of Kentucky, but as the band grew more members joined from around the US. The band performs a wide-ranging repertoire on both baroque and modern trumpets, keeping it’s music accessible to a variety of audiences. In 2016, the ensemble released a cd titled Music for Trumpets, Strings, and Organ from Before 1700. This release captures the essence of great music before 1700, including composers such as Jean Baptiste Lully and Giovanni Battista Fantini. Today the ensemble is led by Don Johnson III and has retained the name Kentucky Baroque Trumpets to honor his father’s legacy and passion for music.
