Justin Bartels

Session: Principal Player Showcase

Justin Bartels joined the Colorado Symphony as Principal Trumpet in July 2008. Prior to his arrival in Colorado, Justin held the Principal Trumpet position with the Columbus Symphony in Ohio and previously was a full time fellow with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida.

Justin is on faculty at the University of Colorado as a Lecturer of trumpet working with Professor Ryan. Gardner and also serves as a visiting guest artist in Orchestral Studies at the University of Denver. He previously was an applied instructor of Trumpet at Regis University.

Justin has played guest principal trumpet with several orchestras including the New York City Ballet, St. Louis Symphony and San Francisco Symphony. In addition, he has performed with the Alabama Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Milwaukee Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Houston Symphony and Virginia Symphony among others. Recent solo engagements include the John Williams trumpet concerto with the Colorado Symphony and as one of the featured artists at the 2016 International Trumpet Guilds first trumpeters concert showcase in Anaheim.

Justin is a graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where he studied with Marie Speziale, Ed Cord and John Rommel. He also attended the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with Alan Siebert and Marie Speziale and the University of Alabama with Mike Johnson.

Mr. Bartels lives with his wife in Denver along with their two daughters. Justin is a Yamaha Performing Artist.
