Session: Practical Applications & Benefits for Transference of Singing Quality into Trumpet Playing (with Katherine Rohrer)

John Schlabach is Professor of Trumpet and Brass Division Chair at Ohio University.  He has extensive performing experience as a solo, chamber, and orchestral musician.  He is an original member of OhioBrass, the faculty brass quintet at OU, and performs frequently with the West Virginia, Ohio Valley, and Columbus (OH) Symphony Orchestras.  Mr. Schlabach has written a number of pedagogical articles including “On Connecting the Ear and Brass Performance” which was published in all four of the professional journals of the trumpet, horn, trombone, and tuba/euphonium international associations.  Keith Johnson, Regents Trumpet Professor at the University of North Texas and author of The Art of Trumpet Playing has stated, “His pedagogical writing is among the very finest I have seen ….”

Mr. Schlabach was the chair of the Creative Artist Committee for the 2015 ITG conference in Columbus, OH, and earned degrees from Northwestern and Western Illinois Universities.
