Session: From New Jersey to Cincinnati: The Life and Career of Classical Trumpeter Philip Collins
Trumpeter John Kilgore joined the Boise Philharmonic as Principal Trumpet at the start of the 2017-18 season. Within the Orchestra, he also serves as Principal Trumpet of the Boise Philharmonic Brass Quintet and Chamber Players. Additionally, he performs Principal Trumpet for Ballet Idaho and on various commercial music concerts and productions in Boise. Prior to joining the Philharmonic, Kilgore was a member of the Ocala (FL) Symphony Orchestra and frequently performed with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the Lexington (KY) Philharmonic and the West Virginia Symphony.
Since August 2019 , Dr. Kilgore has been on faculty at the Kansas State University (KSU) School of Music Theatre and Dance where he teaches applied trumpet, performs with the Faculty Brass Quintet and coaches chamber music. Additionally, he serves the youth music community as a brass coach for the Boise Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and as a trumpet faculty member at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Prior to teaching at KSU, Kilgore was on faculty at Boise State University and a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the trumpet studio at Florida State University.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Kilgore holds a Doctor of Music degree in Performance from Florida State University with a curriculum focus in music history, a Master of Music in Performance from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, and a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Ohio University.
