Session: From New Jersey to Cincinnati: The Life and Career of Classical Trumpeter Philip Collins
Trumpeter John Kilgore joined the Boise Philharmonic as Principal Trumpet at the start of the 2017-18 season. Within the Orchestra, he also serves as Principal Trumpet of the Boise Philharmonic Brass Quintet and Chamber Players. Additionally, he performs Principal Trumpet for Ballet Idaho and on various commercial music concerts and productions in Boise. Prior to joining the Philharmonic, Kilgore was a member of the Ocala (FL) Symphony Orchestra and frequently performed with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the Lexington (KY) Philharmonic and the West Virginia Symphony.
Since January 2018, Dr. Kilgore has been on faculty at the Boise State University (BSU) Department of Music where he teaches applied trumpet lessons and coaches chamber music. Additionally, he serves the youth music community as a Presenter for the Musician in the Classroom outreach program, and as a Brass Coach for the Boise Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. In the summer 2019, he will join the Sun Valley Summer Symphony Music Institute as a Trumpet and Brass Instructor. Prior to teaching at BSU and throughout Boise, Kilgore was a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the trumpet studio at Florida State University.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Kilgore holds a Doctor of Music degree in Performance from Florida State University with a curriculum focus in music history, a Master of Music in Performance from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, and a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Ohio University.
