JOHN HACKETT

The 45th Annual International Trumpet Guild Conference

6.01.21 – 6.05.21

John Hackett

Session: Multi-track remote video and audio recording

John Hackett was born in London (UK) and started taking trumpet lessons when he was seven. An eccentric, strict but well loved, music teacher encouraged him to audition for a Junior Exhibition at the Royal College of Music. He was accepted and so for the next six years Saturday mornings were taken up with music lessons at the RCM.

After leaving High School he went on to study Trumpet at the Royal Academy of Music with Sidney Ellison while simultaneously taking an Open University degree in Mathematics and Physics.

After leaving the RAM, John worked as a freelance musician and teacher for some years before changing career to become a teacher of IT and go back to his studies with the Open University – this time for a Masters Degree in Computing. Leaving teaching in 1999 John became a consultant and is now Director of Icon Information Systems Ltd.

John lives with his violinist wife in London and still enjoys (all least until Covid-19 intervened!) playing for several amateur orchestras including the Kensington Symphony Orchestra and, as Principal Trumpet, with the Salomon and Covent Garden Chamber orchestras.
