Javian Brabham

Session: Building Confidence: Tools for Teacher and Students

Dr. Javian Brabham serves as Valdosta State University Assistant Professor of Trumpet and principal trumpet of the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, and is an active member of the Valdosta State University Faculty Jazz Combo. He served on the faculty at Young Harris College as the Assistant Director of Bands. In addition, Brabham is the co-host of the Coffee & Clarke’s Music Podcast.

Brabham maintains an active performing schedule including past performances with the New Mexico Philharmonic, Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, Rome Symphony Orchestra (GA), Northwest Florida Symphony, Sinfonia Gulf Coast (FL), Albany (GA) Symphony Orchestra, and the New Mexico Big Band. In addition, Brabham has performed at the Gateways Music Festival as a soloist, chamber musician, and member of the Gateways Symphony Orchestra.

As a soloist, Brabham has performed with multiple collegiate, high school, and professional ensembles. He has been a multiple semi-finalist at the National Trumpet Competition and winner of the International Trumpet Guild Conference (ITG) Legacy Scholarship. As a teacher, Brabham has performed and presented master classes around the country including performances at the ITG Conference.

Brabham holds a Doctor of Music from Florida State University in Trumpet Performance (2018), with a certification in college teaching. He completed a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from the University of New Mexico (2014), and a Bachelor of Music Education from Florida State University (2011). His principal teachers include Christopher Moore, Jeff Piper, John Marchiando, and Gary Malvern.
