One of the most outstanding trumpet players of his generation, Flávio Gabriel won 2nd place in the Prague Spring Spring International Music Festival in 2010. This competition, the first to be won by a Brazilian, is seen as one of the toughest in the world.
Having been a member of the Youth Orchestra of the Americas from 2005 to 2007, he toured Latin America, the USA and Europe. In 2007 Flávio Gabriel worked as the principal trumpet in the “Simon Bolívar Youth Orchestra” at theVilla Lobos Festival Caracas, Venezuela. In addition, he is the first foreigner to be invited to be perform with “Ensamble de Metales de Venezuela” which allows him the honor of working under the baton of Berlin Philharmonic Orchestral Trumpeter Thomas Clamor.
Flávio Gabriel served as principal trumpet of the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra from 2004 to 2009 and as a member of the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra – OSESP from 2009 to 2015.
As a soloist he has performed in several premieres of concerts and works dedicated to him. He performs with prestigious orchestras such as the Symphony Orchestra of the State of São Paulo, Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra, Montevideo Philharmonic Orchestra, and many others. Flávio Gabriel is frequently invited as a soloist and teacher in various music festivals such as Campos do Jordão Winter Festival, Santa Catarina Music Festival, Jazz Trumpet Festival, Trumpet Fetival Argentina, Trumpet Association of Peru, Urubrass – Uruguay.
He began his studies at age 11 at Banda Lyra de Mauá, Sao Paulo where he studied under Bartolomeu Rosa and Carlos Binder. Later he studied at Clóvis Beltrami in Campinas, Sao Paulo. Flávio Gabriel holds a degree in Music from The Rio deJaneiro State Federal University (UNIRIO) where he was guided by professor Nailson Simões, and a master’s degree in music teaching in the same university. He is currently studying for a doctorate in music at Universidade Estadual Paulista – UNESP.
Flávio Gabriel is a trumpet professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte – UFRN – Brazil.
