Cynda Fleming is professional trumpet player and music educator based in Toronto, Canada. She has a diverse background of international experience playing in orchestras, brass bands, brass quintets, and as a trumpet soloist. She has a Bachelor of Music from Queen’s University, a Bachelor of Education from Western University, a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from the University of Toronto, and a Master of Music in Music Education from the University of Toronto. She is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Musical Arts program at the University of Toronto, where she is focusing her research on the educational systems of Swiss community bands. As well as performing, Cynda has a passion for brass pedagogy. She has conducted clinics for teachers at Ontario Music Educators’ Association conferences, gives masterclasses in the public school system guiding young brass musicians, and has an active private studio. She is the Manager of Education and Outreach for the Toronto Wind Youth Orchestra. She also loves to compose music for local ensembles, such as Toronto’s Hannaford Youth Brass Band, and has been leading a youth jazz band for the last 18 years for which she writes all of the arrangements. Her favourite musical experience was playing and marching in the local brass band while living on a Swiss mountain for three years, although she loves living and working in the Toronto area now!
