Professor of Trumpet at Universidade Federal de Goiás. For twenty years, Antonio Marcos Cardoso held the position of First Trumpet of the Espírito Santo Symphonic Orchestra and the chair of Trumpet Teacher of the Faculty of Music of the ES, where he studied the Bachelor of Trumpet. At UNIRIO, with Prof. Nailson Simões, acquired the titles of Master and Doctor degrees in Music (Performance). As a soloist, he played the concerts for trumpet by Haydn, Neruda, Arutjunian, Handel, Bach, Copland, Ketting, DUDA, Harry James and Curnow with a few Brazilian maestros. He has performed recitals in many cities in Brazil and Portugal. In the United States, he presented recitals with Duo Galama-Cardoso at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Memphis University in Memphis, Tenessee, Pikeville College, Campbellsville University, University of Kentucky and Center College – in the state Of Kentucky, with Master-classes in some of the schools. Professor in music festival around Brazil such as Winter Festival of Domingos Martins, Arts Week of the Center for Professional Education Brasil e França, 1st Carlos Gomes Festival in Campinas – SP, 1st Brass Meeting of Uberlândia and 1st International Seminar on Trumpets in Brasília, to name a few. Substitute Assistant Professor at UFMG from 2003 to 2005. Member of Banda Pequi – Brazilian Music Orchestra of UFG. Founding member of the Brazilian Trumpet Ensemble and coordinator of the Trompetes do Cerrado group, with presentations at the annual conferences of the International Trumpet Guild in 2014, 2015 and 2017, in the USA.
Professor of Trumpet and Music Theory at the University of Brasilia (UnB), Maico Lopes has an emerging national reputation as a performer, educator and scholar of trumpet chamber music and popular music. Specialized in chamber music for brass, research Brazilian music for unaccompanied trumpet and trumpet ensemble, he performed premiers of more than 20 pieces for these chamber groups over the last few years,
Maico holds a DMA, MM and BM from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO). As result of his researches, he has sheet music published as editor and recorded his first solo CD, Solo, feature Brazilian works for unaccompanied trumpet, released in 2014. He has performed the premier of the very first composition for flugelhorn and piano from a Brazilian composer during the New Works Recital at the 41st ITG Conference.
His popular music experience includes performances as arranger, recording artist and live performances with renowned artists of Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) and Brazilian productions of Broadway shows such as The Producers, The Sound of Music, Hairspray, Hello Dolly, and How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
Dr. Lopes is a founding member of the Brazilian Trumpet Association (ABT), an ITG affiliated Chapter, and collaborate with the site trompeteonline, a website involving multiples universities investing in distance education.
One of the most outstanding trumpet players of his generation, Flávio Gabriel won 2nd place in the Prague Spring International Music Festival in 2010. This competition, the first to be won by a Brazilian, is seen as one of the toughest in the world. Having been a member of the Youth Orchestra of the Americas from 2005 to 2007, he toured Latin America, the USA and Europe and participated in the recording of a Documentary DVD, “Legacy” and Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, directed by Plácido Domingo. In 2007 Flávio Gabriel worked as the Principal Trumpet in the “Simon Bolívar Youth Orchestra” at theVilla Lobos Festival Caracas, Venezuela. In addition, he is the first foreigner to be invited to be perform with “Ensamble de Metales de Venezuela”.
Flávio Gabriel served as Principal Trumpet of the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra from 2004 to 2009, and was a member of São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra – OSESP from 2009 to 2015. He began his studies at age 11 at Banda Lyra de Mauá, Sao Paulo where he studied under Bartolomeu Rosa and Carlos Binder. Later he studied at Clóvis Beltrami in Campinas, Sao Paulo. Flávio Gabriel holds a degree in Music from The Rio de Janeiro State Federal University (UNIRIO) where he was guided by professor Nailson Simões. Actually he is the trumpet professor of Uberlandia Federal University – Minas Gerais – Brazil.
Doctor in Music from Campinas State University (UNICAMP), Paulo Ronqui is professor of trumpet and chamber music of State University of Campinas – UNICAMP – and for 15 years (1997-2012) played as solo trumpeter of Campinas Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Ronqui has acted as a soloist within various orchestras in Brazil and has performed in several countries such as Cuba, Japan, USA, Germani and France. He was awarded the Chamber Music Competition sponsored by UNICAMP in 2006 and the First National Trumpet Solo Competition sponsored by the Federal University of Bahia – UFBA, in 2004.
Within his discography, the Compact Discs “Paulicéia” – Works for Trumpet Solo written by São Paulo Composers, launched in December 2004, is something to be highlighted. “Metallumfonia” – Quinteto de Metais, launched im 2013; and “Metallumfonia – Almeida Prado: obras paulistas para metais”, that will launched in august of 2016.
As a researcher, Mr. Ronqui has been working in researches about Brazilian music for solo trumpet and investigating trumpet section in Brazilian orchestral repertoire. In an institution linked to trumpet, Mr. Paulo is a member of the International Trumpet Guild (ITG), and was twice vice president of the Brazilian Trumpeter Association (ABT) in 2008 and 2009. Besides his solo performance, teaching and orchestral activities, he is a founder and member of Metallumfonia Group, which conducts extensive research on Brazilian music chamber for brass.
Nailson Simões is Professor at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro – UNIRIO, which develops intense academic activity in the areas of teaching, research and extension, especially Brazilian music , working in various aspects of folk music to contemporary music.
After completion of Masters (1986, Boston / MA ) and Ph.D. (1991 , Washington / DC ) in the United States , both under Professor Charles Schlueter (principal trumpet of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1981 to 2006 ) , he returned to Brazil initiating a pioneering and innovative work on interpretation and technique trumpet . The result is the spread and influence of the School of Boston trumpet in almost all the national territory .
He is coordinator of the Group of Trumpets UNIRIO and founder of UNIRIO Metals , where he continues his work chamber music . Participates in the project ” Portable School of Music ” and ” Volta Redonda – Music City” . Develops a parallel solo work , having released in 2001 , the Brazilian Academy of Music , the first cd for solo trumpet and piano in Brazil From 1999 to 2001 he was part of the board of directors of the International Trumpet Guild ITG – in 1990 co-founded the Association of Trumpeters of Brazil – ATB , having been president of this entity. It is a founding member of ABT (Brazilian Association of Trumpeters).
