Session: Introduction to Mariachi Trumpet Pedagogy and Style (with Elliott Johnston)

Alejandra Johnston is a pioneer in the field of mariachi education. Alejandra and her husband, Elliott Johnston, are the founders of Mariachi Education Press LLC and their Mariachi Trumpet Methods, written in collaboration with Agustín Sandoval, have garnered international acclaim from performers, educators, and composers, such as; Eric Aubier, Fabio Brum, Stephen Burns, Pacho Flores, Stanley Friedman, Paul Merkelo, and Tony Plog. Alejandra and Elliott are also the founders of the International Mariachi Education and Performance Foundation, a nonprofit that publishes a free bilingual journal dedicated to mariachi music entitled the International Journal of Mariachi Education and Performance. Alejandra earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Saxophone Performance from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia; and a Master’s Degree in Saxophone Performance from Texas Christian University, in Fort Worth,Texas.
