The 45th Annual International Trumpet Guild Conference

6.01.21 – 6.05.21

Call for Research Proposals

International Trumpet Guild Conference 2021.

UPDATE December 1, 2020

In light of the recent announcement that #ITG2021 will be held a virtual format, the following changes have been made to the submissions, acceptance, and presentation guidelines for the 2021 Research Room:

—The deadline for submitting abstracts is extended to January 4, 2021 (11:59pm).

—The poster session for all accepted abstracts will be presented virtually and consist a digital poster and a brief 1-minute video pitch about the poster (the virtual equivalent of your “elevator pitch” to someone browsing your poster). Both will be presented asynchronously during the conference and archived at TrumpetGuild.org for members. Audience members will be encouraged to follow-up with presenters.

—Presenters selected for oral presentation will pre-record their presentation by mid-March for synchronous presentation during the conference and archival at TrumpetGuild.org.

The 45th International Trumpet Guild Conference will be held in Anaheim, CA, June 1–5, 2021. The ITG Research Room Committee welcomes proposals for research presentations at the Conference. The ITG Research Room offers a blind, peer-reviewed, international research forum for performers, professors, and students to present experimental, action, qualitative, or quantitative research involving trumpet performance, repertoire, and/or pedagogy. Presentations are often developed from graduate or dissertation work, published material, or other new research. Presentations should represent an original contribution to the field, grounded in empirical evidence.

Successful applicants will be invited to present an academic poster at the conference during the Research Room poster session. Several submissions will also be selected for a 15 minute oral presentation during a Research Room paper session. All successful proposal abstracts will be published in the Conference’s electronic program. Presenters will benefit from sharing their work with fellow ITG Members to generate exposure and connections that may lead to future collaboration, nationally or internationally.

Presenters selected for oral presentation are encouraged to employ audio-visual aids (powerpoint), deliver handouts and summaries for the audience, and will receive a video recording of their presentation. Abstracts and presentation recordings may also be archived as a members-only resource on the ITG website.

Researchers should submit a 500-word abstract summarizing their thesis, sources, data collection, methods, and conclusions. Abstracts should be submitted electronically through the ITGconference.org website and full details may be found on the submission form.

The deadline for Submission is December 1, 2020.

Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of experts and accepted proposal authors will be notified in January 2021. The ITG Research Room offers no financial incentives and presenters are responsible for all conference registration and travel expenses.

Questions should directed via email to the ITG Research Room chair, Fred Sienkiewicz: fred.sienkiewicz@vanderbilt.edu
